THE EDGE- FINAL CUT

Ancillary Text One- Magazine Front Cover

Ancillary Pictures - Front Cover

This was the picture we chose to shoot and use for our magazine front cover, I wanted to go for a more glamorous cover, rather then serious or cheap, so I took inspiration from the magazine, Fabulous.

I decided too use a close up in order to emphasise the facial expression and instead of shoot myself as the actress I got into character to play Crystal for the cover.

I wore quite a lot of make and kept with the red lipstick (symbolising danger) to keep to my characters personality and look within the trailer.

I used Picasa to edit my picture, used the highlighter tool, brightener, and shadow tool in order to get this vibrant effect.

However after feedback I found that I needed to play around with the constrast and saturation as the face was too bleached and didn't allow the facial expression to be clearly seen.

Ancillary Text Two- Billboard

Ancillary Pictures - Billboard

As a group we decided that we wanted the poster to push the boundries of a conventional poster. We wanted to think outside the box and create an individual abstract idea. The Idea of the character, Sierra, knowing and controlling the situations gave us the idea of puppets and their master.Whilst shooting our photos for our billboard we tried a variety of puppet poses as if being pulled by strings and a close up of Nat (Sierra)to create the look of a controller/master.

First Attempt

Second Attempt
This was my second attempt at creating a billboard yet i felt it look unprofessional with the back ground and also the E4 banner needed editing and moving to go along with the correct format and current E4 branding. Finally the E4 logo needed placing in the corner.

Evaluation Question Four

Social Media (Question 4)

I used social media in form of a blog, BLOGGER, in order to document my work, keep in contact with my tutor, group and other media students as well as keeping up to date with my work. I was able to access the A2 aquinas media blog through mine so i could get updates of tips and tasks to do.

I also used my TWITTER account @rebekhawhite in order to make easy contact with my tutor and other students by following @aquinasmedia, this allowed me to gain access to deadline and receive audience feedback.

THE EDGE- ROUGH CUT 2

What needed changing in our 2nd rough cut:
  • A few of the beats still need matching to the image e.g. Car door slamming
  • Beats between the end close ups
  • Order of the scenes to allow the trailer to make more sense
  • Zooming in, to make the image closer in order to exclude some of the surrounding e.g grinds in the roof

THE EDGE- ROUGH CUT 1

This is our first rough cut I uploaded yet I realised there was still quite a few changes I could make in order to improve the products, including making the storylines clearer and making sure the music fit better within the editing.
I also thought that it would be nice if I could include a few close ups of the characters towards the end to show emotions and engage the audience through eye contact.

Social Networking
Fashion
Technology
Money
Programmes like Made in Chelsea

This is a moodboard for my audience demographic. Images within my mood board show items, programs and other things to which my audience would most probly own or watch. The other programmes and the products are what i would hope would reflect my trailer's brand identity and the whole brand idently of many programmes on E4.

  • E4 Branding
- Logo and Purple colour
  • Controversial image showing key characters highlighted and showing elements of thier personality.

Fabulous magazine is a weekly suplementry which comes with The Sun newspaper, its filled with fashion, beauty, celeb gossip and TV news.

Although this is not your typical television mag, its still goes along with some of the conventions, in this photoshoot she is posing as he character 'Rosie', this is backed up by the anchor "Oh Rosie".

This front cover is colourful, fun and vibrant and will appeal to the same target audience as my trailer.

This was the first brainstorm we put together full of possible storylines, characters, relationships between them and even names of the soap opera and characters.

Planning the characters.
We decided that in order to show glamour and wealth that the names should be 'un-common', such as, the names featured in made in Chelsea like Hugo and Spencer, we also thought that to had a sense of humour we could had a theme, like Jewellery names or brands.

Me- I was playing the role of Cristal, I decided that my character must show her, so called, 'loose' personality in how she dresses and wears her hair and make up. We decided I sure where an element of red in order to show danger.
Hollie (Pandora) - Green to show jealousy
Nat (Sierra) - Black to show her dark, 'spooky' personality
Meg (Sapphire) - White to show innocence
Jack (Preston) - Grey to show he is feeling no emotions, 'heartless'-'colourless' even though he is cheating on his girlfriend
Josh (Thomas Sabbo) - Navy, dark colours to show he is going through a troubled time.

These are the exact scenes we had planed to film, the order we wanted to film, and who was down to do each role, from acting to directing.

Storyboards

We started to story board ideas, storylines and narratives. We wanted to use common soap storylines such a romance, relationships and cheating, too create love triangles. Then we played around with the idea of teen pregnancy as it is a major issue within society and can be dramatised well both seriously and for humour if creating a parody.

Song Choice

Nero- Crush on you
Lyrics..
How did you-
You found out-
How did you-
You found out-
I've got a crush on you
- we decided not to use this song as we wanted to emphasise the cheating and the 'wrong doing' instead of just an innocent crush.
JakWob (Ellie Goulding)- Under the sheets
Lyrics..
Were under the sheets and you’re killing me
In our house made of paper, your words all over me
Were under the sheets and you’re killin’ me
-Although the lyrics of this song goes well with the storyline the beat and rhythm didn't fit and failed to help build up the tension.
Nero- Guilt
Lyrics..
You keep on talking but it makes no sense at all
You try to fake it but you’re breaking every rule
Right from the start you've always made me feel a fool
The guilt you hide will come between us after all
-We chose to use this song as both the lyrics and beats fit best with our trailer, it also allowed us time to edit our footage too match the beats in the song, the lyrics and drops match our images and fades to blacks.

Ancillary Practise- Hollyoaks Practise

"All the better to kill you with.."- I have used this line to make refference to the characters costume, expression, relevent story line and even the time of the year. Many know that this character is dressed as little red ridding hood which is the story where this line had been taking from.

The E4 logo has been put on as a tilt as this is simular to most other E4 billboards and advertisements, it is hardly ever placed in a straight angle. The colour of this logo and the writting has also been used in order to match the channels current look.

Soap Opera PRACTICE

We created a soap opera trailer, based on scenes and story lines from current soap operas such as Neighbours and Hollyoaks to practise our camera work, planning, team work and editing skills for our final piece.

Soap Opera Basics

UK soaps contain more realism than US and Spanish Soaps

Traditional soap operas run continuously – character storylines overlap

Can have 10-15 main characters a range of genders, ages, sexualities, and races, to appeal to as large an audience as possible

Soap operas become part of a national psyche- they weave into our culture
Characters become “people”, they are spoken of as if they are family

Audience- aimed at female audiences, this affects scheduling, storylines, characters, narrative perspective.

Story- events unfolding

Narrative perspective- point of view the story is told from

Catharsis- emotional cleansing, watching someone go through the same as you makes you feel better

Eastenders powerpoint

Summer stop motion animation evaluation

Footloose- opening credits

The opening credits of footloose is what I based by stop animation on.
